Driving down the road on a Sunday, I heard a letter forming in my head. It was powerful and raw and I didn’t want the kids to hear it. I had to pull over on the side of the road, and dictate the letter into my phone. The words flowed on their own and address something that I haven’t been able to do, still. The letter is titled “Put Down the Gun”. I wrote it to my father, who committed suicide when I was 7.
